FAQ ABOUT DECKS
-
How does the whole Process work?
You reach out to us and we contact you to schedule an initial meeting where we will discuss your project. After this we can provide a very rough estimate.
If the rough estimate sounds good to you we can move forward and create drawings for the city permits. This is where we will decide on all the different component sizes and materials and are able to generate a more accurate estimate. If you arent happy with the price at this stage the drawings and detailed material list are yours to keep and even use to price check with other contractors.
Once approved by you we will submit the plans to the city. The only price change you would ever see after step 2 would be if the city requested changes to be made to the design. This is unusual as we know the rules.
Once the plans are approved by the city we book you in our calander and place a material order to ensure it is available on time.
Our team builds your deck on time for the quoted price!
We do a walk through with you of the finished project and address any concerns you may have before you pay!
-
Do decks require permits?
They usually do. There are some exceptions for low level decks but in most cases permits are required.
-
What types of decking options are there?
We can build your deck out of pressure treated, cedar, composite, or PVC. All framing is done in top grade sienna brown pressure treated lumber
-
How do you decide what size framing or piles to use?
Footings, post, beam, and joist size are all determined using the National Building Code Alberta Edition as well as city of Calgary guidelines. In certain soil conditions we may even recommend helical piles.
-
What type of hand/guard rails do you offer
We usually recommend a no maintenance option such as powder coated aluminum with aluminum pickets or glass inserts. We do offer wood railings as well but they can be a lot more work to maintain and aren’t much cheaper these days do to increased lumber prices.
-
How long will it take to build?
Every project is different but for an average size deck we usually can remove the old deck and dig/pour the footings in day one. Frame day 2. put deck boards down on day 3, and comeback and do handrail, skirting and clean up on day 4. Most decks are done in a week.
-
Will you remove our old deck for us?
Of course!
-
Will there be any hidden fees?
No, if you hire us to design and build your deck, your design comes with every a line item for every component of the deck listed. This is why we dont provide free designs. They are time consuming and very detailed.
-
Do you offer financing?
We are currently working on deals with a few companies so we should be able to offer this service soon. More to come on this!

Everything, we arrange for locates, supply all the material and clean up when we are done. If there is existing fencing to remove we include that as well.

Are there any hidden costs?
Almost always no! We try very hard to honour our quoted price. We do let every client we work with know that in extreme circumstances there may be an extra hourly charge for digging. This is extremely uncommon but you never know what you will find under the ground. A few years ago we did a job backing on to an alley and when the alley had been built they burried giant sandstone rocks under the back lane at the bottom of there base. These rocks were huge and about a foot below grade along the property line. They all had to be exposed and chipped with up with a jack hammer.
